Haunted Pawleys Island


South Carolina is well known as a haunted state in the USA. But, today we will talk about Pawleys Island because of its ghost stories and legends. Especially, The Grey Man who is roaming near the beach to warn visitors and more stories. Here we go. The Grey Man story is well-known to the locals. If The Grey Man is spotted on the beach, the next moment a horrible hurricane sweeps Pawleys Island. The question is why do locals call him Grey Man? This person wearing all grey clothes and he speaks to people and vanishes all of a sudden.

The next story is The Pelican Inn; there are quite some incidents that happened over here. A famous ghost story of two Boston Terriers dogs can be seen here. These dogs are owned by an old caretaker. One dog died during a rescue attempt of a boy in the ocean and another dog died due to illness. People claimed to have seen these dogs and heard barking while there are at the Pelican Inn. 


In addition to the above story, the ghost of Alice Flagg is a more popular legend on this island. Alice Flagg was the sister of Dr. Allard Flagg a wealthy man who lived here. Alice fell in love with a lumberman, but her brother refused and forced the man out of the island. But Alice and that person got engaged secretly. She gave her ring to him. Dr. Flagg found out and he sent her to boarding school and also he got back the ring. After a few months, she died due to malaria. He removed the ring and threw it into the marsh. She was buried in the All Saints Episcopal Church Cemetery. When visitors visit her grave, they feel like someone is pulling them and others see her walking at the front door of the Hermitage. 

Another famous ghost Dr. Henry Tucker owns Litchfield Plantation property. He is known as a friendly ghost and none of the visitors has felt threatened by him.
