What is the real story of Kuldhara

India is meant for rich histories, some twisted with eerie legends and ghostly tales. In villages, you may find a lot of haunted stories and one such place is Kuldhara, an abandoned village in the desert state of Rajasthan. Kuldhara is a village surrounded by mystery and conspiracy, attracting visitors and paranormal fanatics from around the world. The village's eerie atmosphere, connected with its mysterious history, makes it one of the most haunted places in India.

The Curse of Kuldhara

Kuldhara was once a prosperous village populated by the Paliwal Brahmins, but now it is abandoned. The locals claim that a curse was placed on the village by its Paliwal Brahmins and that this curse has kept the village haunted till today.  The legend goes that the Paliwal Brahmins were once successful, with a strong sense of community and a deep connection to their land. However, their peaceful existence was shattered by a dictatorial ruler, Salim Singh, who craved the beautiful daughter of the village chief.

Salim Singh desired the village chief’s daughter. In those times, royal rulers had the power to claim the hand of any woman in their kingdom, often taking them by force. When the village chief refused to give his daughter to the ruler, Salim Singh threatened to destroy the entire village. Fearing the wrath of the ruler, the villagers decided to take an extreme step. One night, the entire village of Kuldhara was abandoned, and the villagers disappeared without a trace.

As they left, the villagers placed a curse on the land, ensuring that anyone who tried to occupy or settle over there would face adversity and death. Since that night, Kuldhara has remained abandoned, and many who have visited or tried to investigate the village claim to have experienced strange, supernatural occurrences during night times.

Paranormal Activities in Kuldhara

The village consists of several ruins of houses, temples, and wells, all of which are said to be haunted. Visitors claimed to feel a painful, unexplainable presence while walking through the village. A chill runs down the spine of anyone who dares to enter the ruins after sunset. They also claimed disembodied voices, footsteps, and even sightings of shadowy figures. The visitors feel that they are watched by someone behind them and following them. Most of them claimed they witnessed apparitions of women dressed in traditional Rajasthani attire, walking among the abandoned homes. These spirits are the agitated spirits of the village women who died tragically or who vanished along with their families.

The question that remains in the minds of many is: what really happened to the Paliwal Brahmins who once lived in Kuldhara? While the legend suggests that the villagers left the place overnight, some researchers and historians believe that the village’s decline may have been due to other factors, such as famine, water scarcity, or harsh desert conditions.

Some believe that the curse was not only placed on the village but also on the land itself. The empty desert surroundings add to the feeling of desolation and desperation that visitors often experience when they visit Kuldhara. The belief in curses and supernatural forces is deeply embedded in the culture of Rajasthan, and many locals refuse to go near Kuldhara, particularly after dark.

The Rajasthan government has recognized the significance of Kuldhara and has taken steps to preserve the site as a tourist attraction. However, the government prevents overnight stays in the village due to its haunted reputation. Despite the government taking some precautions, Kuldhara remains a popular destination for those who wish to explore its eerie past.
